Certifications & Requirements
What DCAS actually checks
EMT / Emergency Medical Responder
Certificate in emergency medical services (or Assistant/Registered Nurse qualification), valid BLS certification, plus a trauma certificate (PHTLS or ITLS). At least 1 year of relevant post-qualification experience.
Paramedic
Recognised diploma or degree in Paramedicine or Emergency Medical Technology, valid BLS, ACLS and a trauma certificate (PHTLS or ITLS). 2+ years’ emergency/ambulance experience is strongly preferred.
Advanced / Critical Care Paramedic
Postgraduate diploma or master’s in critical care paramedicine, valid BLS, ACLS, PALS and PHTLS/ITLS, plus 2+ years’ post-qualification critical care paramedic experience.
DCAS licensing is genuinely different from DHA/MOH: it requires DataFlow primary-source verification, a Prometric computer-based exam, AND a separate practical exam — the only UAE health authority to require both. Government licence fees currently run AED 800 (EMT), AED 1,300 (Paramedic) and AED 1,800 (Advanced Paramedic/Instructor categories).
Licensing by Emirate
One country, four separate licensing authorities
The UAE doesn’t have a single, unified EMT/Paramedic licence. Each emirate (or group of emirates) regulates emergency medical professionals through its own health authority, with its own exams, fees and DataFlow process. Knowing which one applies to your offer — before you accept it — avoids delays down the line.
Dubai — DCAS
Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services. Licenses EMS professionals independently from DHA, with its own written and practical exam.
Abu Dhabi — DOH
Department of Health – Abu Dhabi. Covers Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and the Al Dhafra region.
Sharjah — SHA
Sharjah Health Authority. Sharjah’s own licensing body, closely aligned with the MOHAP framework.
Ajman, UAQ, RAK & Fujairah — MOHAP
Ministry of Health & Prevention. One federal licence covers EMS roles across all four Northern Emirates.
